Where were you on September 11th, 2001?

I was 10-years-old and in fifth grade. I remember being at school, working on a project when suddenly the teacher turned off the lights and turned on the news. I wasn’t sure what was happening or why we were watching TV, but the other kids started whispering that something major was going on. We were the only class in school whose teacher let them watch the news coverage. As the day went on, kids started getting picked up early by their parents, one by one.

My mind couldn’t comprehend what was going on. I always thought that history was something that you read about, I didn’t know that it could just HAPPEN. How could something so terrible and so world-shattering happen in America, my home, a place that I thought was invincible? Things like that never seem real.
