“Hey look everyone. It’s the Heir of Slytherin!”
“Be careful. He’s a seriously evil wizard”
I remember reading this book and thinking this was the funniest line ever.
“Make way for the heir of Slytherin, seriously evil wizard coming through!”

The Imperius Curse…
“Harry felt a floating sensation as every thought and worry in his head was wiped gently away, leaving nothing but a vague, untraceable happiness.”
…sounds like drugs.
I’ve never read The Hunger Games (nor do I have any plans to), but seeing people tumble/tweet about tonight’s midnight release has me thinking about the Harry Potter fandom….
Hi, friends. Can I please remind you that it was us who started this grand tradition of midnight book release parties? We turned getting a new book into an event worth counting down the days for. We made reading cool and brought literature back into the realm of pop culture (a place that, before Harry Potter, was populated solely by movies, sports, magazines and video games).
Four summers ago it was we who were updating our Myspaces (lol) and Facebooks in anticipation of Deathly Hallows. That may have been the end of our story, but our legacy lives on.
I realize that none of these thoughts are unique and that all of this is old news…. It’s just that every so often I’m struck by how significant this experience has been, not only for us, but for our entire generation and society at large. After three years it’s still worth noting and it will always be worth remembering.
I look forward to the day that my own child is standing in line at Barnes & Noble, eagerly awaiting a new book (or a new Kindle download as the case may be). It will be one of the proudest moments of my life to tell them how their mother did the very same thing, as part of a phenomenon that started it all.
Love,
Rhiannon
